The only curve at that corner is for trams travelling north in Glenferrie
Road turning west into Mavlern Road (which is double, so trams travelling
east in Malvern Road turning south into Glenferrie Road). The tram derailed
on the south-east courner where there is no track/curve.
Maybe the tram driver was taking a short cut instead of crossing the
intersection and shunting.
