Re: Overhead power lines



Assuming there is consistency to the replacement of overhead I would assume
that the use of a double contact wire is predominantly related to current
carrying capacity.

However, when the up main and up suburban were rewired between St Marys and
Westmead only a single contact wire was used in conjunction with a single
catenary wire!!!  This is a four track section however - are both up lines
connected electrically (unless specifically isolated) to increase current
carrying capacity?

Most other areas have been rewired with double contact wires or
alternatively a separate conductor adjacent to the overhead such as:
Penrith - St Marys
Loftus Bank
At least some of the city railway tracks between Central and the Goulburn St
portals.
