It all seems a bit of a shame to go to all this trouble, though. There
are still quite a few suitable QR locos in reasonable order that would
have done the trick.

Gad. It'll be like watching Trax 48's coupled to UP SD40's at the
Brisbane Minature Train Exhibition again.
