I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to video an
interesting workinging today.
I had set up at the Sydney end of the down platform at Cowan to record
no.4168 LVR freight which was being worked by 4716, cab leading, 4701,
long end leading and 4486, no.1 end leading. It was a good thing that
I had arrived early because no sooner had I set up the gear when
around the corner growled the train some 15 minutes ahead of
timetable. As it reached the up platform it came to a halt just as an
up interurban which must have been diverted to the down line at
Brooklyn overtook the LVR freight and crossed back to the up on the
crossover at the Sydney end of the platform. As soon as the interurban
had cleared the section the LVR freight blasted out of the station
with much noise and exhaust smoke. I panned around the follow the
locos and just as they were about to round the curve at the end of the
short straight that runs out of the station two NRs on 2SB7(?) hurtled
around and the corner and roared through the station. I managed to
record the whole procedure which edits down to a spectacular piece of
video.
You've got to get lucky sometimes.
Bevan Wall.
