All,
A summary of points from an article in today's 'Age' (18/10/1999) about the
new log trains to commence running between Morwell - Geelong (Dedicated
timber rail link opens / Philip Hopkins, page B4)
According to the article
- the trains will be in blocks of 30 wagons
- trains will run daily
- the 50 wagons will be refurbished from surplus wagons and the work split
between Notley Engineering (Geelong) and Goninan (Bendigo 'shops)
- a new terminal to be built at Morwell
- joint venture between FV and Australian Marshalling Services (AMS) t/as
Rail Pine Pty Ltd
- Off-loading will be done at Corio Quay South
- A feasability study is underway to possibly reopen the Sale - Bairnsdale
line with trial loadings to start in the next few months
the article concludes with a description of FV's NSW log train operation and
the selling of RailAmerica's stake in GSR, which is now wholly owned by
Serco (ironic considering they are possibly pulling out of running part of
Adelaide bus network)
Cheers
