Aus loco discussion mailing list
Electric Loco's on Ballast trains are extremly rare (rare on any freight
trains these days!) but not unheard of.
I saw one Candy 86 Class hauling Ballast wagons late at night on the Up
North Shore line during the Main North shutdown back in 94/95.
Another sighting was Blue 8506 at Leura in Mid 1996 with a load of empty
ballast wagons heading down the mountains.
If only I had advanced warning of the double 86's......
