Re: XPT motive power

How would the higher geared EL's go on the Blue Mountains gradients? Of all the XPT runs, this is probably the one that least requires high speed traction, apart from a brief dash from Parramatta to Penrith, and between Wellington and Dubbo. A 422 or other conventional loco would probably do just as well.
If a XP/EL power combo *was* possible, it may be more useful on the longer Interstate runs. Leaving a spare unit at Dubbo as someone suggested is also not a very good utilisation of motive power!
