Aus loco discussion mailing list
Good Evening All,
It appears that QR has withdrawn the 1502 class. A late news item in the
Members' Newsletter(ARHS Qld Div) advised that the 1502 class would not be
operating next year because they would no longer be needed. The sugar
season is over and 4000 class locos are coming into service. Displaced coal
locos will not doubt replace the 1502 locos.
By the time this Newsletter was printed and distributed, the 1502 class had
disappeared from Rockhampton where 4 to 6 1502 locos have generally resided
at any one time. Apparently the locos were sent to Redbank sometime between
13/12 and 20/12/1999.
Their use was usually as second units on grain trains from Emerald to
Gladstone, shunt loco at Bluff, local Rockhampton workings on ballast from
Nerimbera, stock to and from Gracemere Saleyards, and explosives loading
from Bajool.
Does any other Qld subscriber know if all the 1502 class were withdrawn
concurrently and sent to Redbank or is there an odd straggler still left
working out there somewhere?
Cheers,
Bruce Russell
