Re: Inaugural IP locos

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Dear Brett,

I had to check my message again to see if I had mistakenly stated that both
the 46's on the inaugual IP were coupled No.1 ends together. My message
clearly states that all locos were No.2 end leading so that the bufferless
end of the 46's (No.1 end) on all units would be against the IP cars. (No
doubt to facilitate the swapping of locos if there is a failure).

The stand-by unit in Central on that day was 4608 which also had it's
buffers removed from the No.1 end. It, naturally, was also facing No.2 end
leading out of Central.

The two trains (No.1 - the inaugual and No.3 - the press train) were
combined at Pt. Pirie into one train and this was hauled by CL1+GM25+GM47.
The press train was hauled into Pt. Pirie from Broken Hill by 601+864.

Regards,

Mark.

Regards,

Mark
