I travelled on the ICD in 1989 with 42220 ex-Melbourne. For some reason, a
44 was to be attached at Albury, probably for loco balancing. I watched with
much amusement as there was much argument from the crew as to why the 422
should lead, probably for the same reasons as above. They wasted so much
time arguing, that in the end the 44 had to go on the front to avoid further
delays. Probably just as well - the 44 failed at Goulburn and was taken off.
