(open response to yourself and the List members)

I've refrained from public comment up to this point, to see which way things would turn out, (and because, frankly, like quite a few other people, I didn't want to dob myself in for the job!) but it's great news if you have arrived at a solution which will keep the list going.

I'd also like to thank you for your work in setting up the group - perhaps now that everyone is aware of the underlying issues, there will be more adherence to "on topic" postings, although I think most of us have (i) transgressed at one point or other, and (ii) occasionally enjoyed some of the more light hearted moments - let's at least try and retain our sense of humour. :-)

>From my experience on another (non rail related) forum that has both a moderated and a non-moderated list, I can tell you that it is workable. The most common response to an off-topic post on the moderated forum is "take this rubbish to the other board!" and that usually works.

>From reading some of the responses, it looks as if the Guidelines need to be posted to all new members with their list confirmation, as well as available on the website (I thought this was done already, or maybe people just don't read them). My other suggestion is that maybe, just maybe, the guidelines should be expanded slightly, to include general rolling stock as well as locomotive issues (but not quite down to the nuts and bolts level required by modellers!) , plus overall industry developments/rumours/ new operators etc, providing this is reported as straight news, and not political opinion or commercially motivated.

Looking through posts for recent months, the most significant loco happenings (such as EL's to NSW) have been aligned with these industry /operator changes, so it becomes difficult to just focus on the units themselves without in some way reporting on the broader influences affecting their deployment. This may be a good issue for the new moderator to canvass!

Regards, and best wishes for the future,
