Re: QR going national?



 Actually, it wasn't. Qantas were facing the prospect of having to buy
expensive new Constellations in the late 1940s, and couldn't afford to do so
unless Hudson Fysh sold the company.

The only two potential buyers were:

BOAC; and
The Commonwealth of Australia.

Fysh had fought strongly in the 1930s to keep Qantas out of the hands of
Imperial Airways - and would have rather closed the company than sold it to
BOAC. So he sold  it to the Commonwealth. Qantas remained registered with
the Australian Stock Exchange during its years of Commonwealth ownership.
