Only a few hundred (or maybe a few thousand).

How do you define "closed", anyway? Do you mean "no longer available for
regular passenger service", or "physically demolished", or what? And
when you talk about the LINE closing, do you mean closing for passenger
service or closing altogether?

If you consider only the NSW north coast, for instance, you have a line
still open for passenger traffic but where the number of passenger stops
has been reduced from maybe 100 (in the days of trains like the North
Coast Mail) to maybe 10 (as an order of magnitude).
