Re: Uncompleted Railways

Can anyone give information on any railway were a SUBSTANTIAL start was made on construction but work stopped and consequently no track was laid?  In New South Wales I can think of the following railways:
>Snip
>Are there any others?  Any similar "railways" in other states?

The "west" curve between the Bankstown and Metropolitan Goods (Enfield-Flemington) lines in Sydney. The embankment was built, though I think now it's largely disappeared. I have even seen it shown as a completed railway in some street directories.
(To forestall the attacks - I take "SUBSTANTIAL" in your original posting to mean that a substantial portion of the work necessary to construct a working railway was completed. I would argue that building the embankment represents a pretty substantial proprtion of the construction, even though, in this case, it would not have been a substantial part of the railway network in terms of distance.)
