Re: Uncompleted Railways

The line from Alphington to East Preston was authorized in 1948 and
repealed by Parliament in 1959. It was to run from the Alphington
station and would have crossed Darebin Road near Fulham Road, Dundas
Street near Kerr Street, Wood Street near Hannah Street, Plenty Road
near Erskine Avenue and terminate at the intersection of Boldrewood
Parade and the Broadway.

I have an old Melbourne street directory from the early 1950's with the
railway reservation shown and marked with 'reserved for future railway'.

Remnants of the reservation can be seen on Melways 31A5 with the kink in
Walsh Ave. Also look at McLennan Place (19B10), Nunan Place (19B9) and
Loddon Ave (19B7) which run along the old reservation.
