Apparently it had just barely enough work done on it to open it and run a
train on it, then was left to rot. This is because by the time they got
around to finishing it, it was realised it wouldn't be needed... but the
government grant had already been paid, so it had to be officially finished.
You can trace the route fairly easily in a Melways.
