I think what you are missing is the point that as far as I know, and I am
open to correction on this by someone who may know better, is that the
service that is ontime has the prority... If the freight services are on
time, they should be in the loop waiting for the passenger train...  There
is only 1 crossing on the North Coast where the XPT is tabled to go away for
the freighter and that is NT 2 and MB4 at Bundook... My point is, that when
an XPT is late, the train controllers run the freight services into the
passenger at *every* opportunity... but when the freight is late and the xpt
is OK they still manage to cross overlength Freight services with xpt at
short loops... each one of these crossings takes 8 - 10 minutes out of the
XPT.. and people wonder why the pass is sometimes late..
