Re: Melbourne maglev

If a maglev could be built directly from Melbourne GPO to the airport, it
would be 18 km long.
At 1 m/s/s acceleration (the limit for passenger comfort without being
strapped into seats),
a train could reach 480 km/h 9 km out, then start braking. Total journey 4
min 30 sec.
At this sort of compression, the time taken to walk through convoluted
passageways and barriers becomes more significant than the journey time.

What is achievable via Broadmeadows:
If the infrastructure people could remove restrictive points and curves,
Flinders St pfm 11 - Broadmeadows - airport is about 24 km: 18 min at an 80
km/h average; 15 min at a 100 km/h average, achievable without a third
track or any really major infrastructure changes, and with any benefits
going to all suburban travel.
