I have to admit I've never heard of Tumoulin!

A summary of High and Low Stations trivia (so far :))

New South Wales (pre-metric Curve & Gradient Book, Public Timetables)

Blue Cow: 1900 m. (previous posting)
Main North - highest point between Llangothlin & Ben Lomond : 4517 ft. /
1377 m.
Main North - Ben Lomond : 4473 ft. / 1363 m.
Tarana - Oberon - Oberon : 3623 ft. / 1104 m.
Main North - highest point between Walcha Road & Wollun : 3615 ft. / 1102 m.
(approx.)
Main West - highest point between Bell & Newnes Jct. : 3584 ft. / 1092 m.
Main North - Wollun : 3555 ft. / 1084 m. (highest station site on the
surviving part of the north!)
Bombala - Nimmitabel : 3503 ft. / 1068 m.
Main West - Newnes Jct. : 3503 ft. / 1068 m.
Main North - Walcha Road: 3387 ft. / 1032 m.
Crookwell - Roslyn : 3225 ft. / 983 m.
Gilmore - Kunama - Kunama : 3083 ft. / 940 m.
Main South - Cullerin : 2396 ft. / 730 m.
City Railway - Wynyard (Low) : 12 ft. / 4 m.
Main North - Civic : 4 ft. / 1 m.
Main North - Newcastle : 4 ft. / 1 m.
Wolli Creek (Low) - : -17 ft. / -5 m. (my guess)
Eastern Suburbs - lowest point: -10 m. (previous posting from )
New Southern Railway - lowest point under Cooks River: -40 ft. / -12 m. (my
guess)

Queensland (Working Timetables)

Tumoulin : ?? (where is it? How high?)
Kuranda : ??
Warwick - Stanthorpe - The Summit : 3035 ft. / 925 m.
Warwick - Stanthorpe - Glen Niven (sic!) : 2936 ft. / 895 m.

Victoria (Public Timetable and previous posting from Yuri)

Woodend - Daylesford - Bullarto : 2452 ft. / 747 m.
City Loop - Flagstaff: -1 m.
City Loop - Parliament: -3 m.
City Loop - Museum: -7 m.

Central Australia Railway (ARHS and ARE tour notes)

Lake Eyre Siding : -6 ft. / -2 m.
MP497 : -25 ft. / -8 m. (miles from Adelaide via Terowie)
Curdimurka : -3 ft. / -1 m.

W.A.G.R. (Public Timetable)

Meekatharra : 1709 ft. / 521 m.
Kalgoorlie - Leonora - Jessop's Well : 1425 ft. / 434 m. (highest point
still open?)

Tentative conclusions:

* Museum (Vic.) is the lowest railway station in the country and Wolli Creek
isn't likely to beat it.
* The Eastern Suburbs Railway (N.S.W.) may have the lowest point on a
railway; the New Southern Railway may beat it.
* Blue Cow is indisputably the hightest railway station in the country.
* The highest operating main-line railway station seems to be Newnes Jct.
(since Countrylink don't seem to stop at Wollun, Kentucky etc. any more!).
* The highest point on an operating main-line railway is between Walcha Road
and Wollun (but the height shown above is just my estimate from the C&G
book).

Rgds
