There is no connection with years, numbers are as follows
1 - 237M are Hitachi/Martin & King motors, introduced b/w 1971 and 1981.
1901 - 2017T are Hitachi trailers, as above.
301 - 698M are Comeng motors (with a few gaps), introduced 1981 - 1989.
1001 - 1199T are Comeng Trailers, as above.
