FREIGHT VICTORIA

SALE - HILLSIDE INTERMEDIATE SIDING
TRIAL OPERATION OF FREIGHT SERVICES

Commencing forthwith trial freight services will operate between Sale and
Hillside Intermediate Siding. The services will operate on an infrequent
basis until further advice is given from this office.

The following conditions will apply during the operation of these
services: -

- The portion of line extending from Sale to Hillside Intermediate Siding
will be operated under Siding Conditions.  The points at Hillside Siding
will remain secured by Master Key Locks.
- A maximum speed of 30 km/h will apply over the line, subject to any lesser
speed restriction.
- The maximum axle load permitted over the line is 12.5 tonnes.  The R.T.L
will be utilised exclusively for these trials.
- The primary form of Train communication between Sale and Hillside will be
via SMR.
- Train Crews will be responsible for advising the Train Controller of the
arrival and intended departure times at Hillside Siding.
- The electronic protection equipment at all level crossings between Sale
and Hillside has not yet been re commissioned for use.  Suitably qualified
staff must protect these crossings for all train movements.
- The Fixed Signals at Stratford and Fembank will be temporarily out of use.
- Up Home Light Signal Post No.3 at Sale will be re commissioned for use in
the week commencing 7.11.99.

Sale - Operating Requirements.

A Signaller must be in attendance at Sale when opposing trains are to
simultaneously approach the location.  Upon the arrival of an Up Train at
Sale, the Driver may operate the points leading to the Freight Gate Sidings
once authority has been received from the Signaller, The points must be
restored to the normal position and looked after each movement.
Down Starting Signal Post No.2 will remain temporarily out of service.

The Train Register Book must be used in the usual manner to record all train
movements over the Sale -Hillside portion of line.  Additionally, the Train
Controller must advise the Signaller of the arrival and departure times at
Hillside Siding.  This information must also be recorded in the Train
Register Book.  Track Permission for Road Rail Vehicle movements must be
referred to the Train Controller in the usual manner.  The normal Rules for
the granting of track permission will apply, with regard to opposing train
movements.
