 One slight problem. Queensland Rail is narrow gauge (3'6") whereas the
new Darwin line will be standard gauge (4'8.5"). The only practical way
to improve the situation would be to gauge convert QLD but the cost
would be astronomical for a relatively small benefit. Also the QR
loading profile is much smaller that the standard gauge which would to
prevent standard wagons working in QLD.
The dreaded rail gauge mess raises its ugly head again.
