TransAdalaide

I read somewhere the other day that of all the metropolitan rail
systems, Adelaide was the only system to suffer a decline in
patronage. I wonder if there is any connection between the fact that
Adelaide is the only urban/suburban rail system to be non-electrified
has anything to do with this? Perth commuter rail was in terminal
decline until the system was electrified; now it does not have enough
stock to carry commuters in comfort, particularly on the Northern
Suburbs Line in peak hour, even with the addition of recently aquired
new EMU stock. Any thoughts on this?
