It's *extremely* unlikely that the emergency crossover at Edgecliff would
ever be used for a suburban train unless something dire has happened at
Bondi and there are trains trapped between Martin Place and Bondi which need
to be get out of the way.

Even so, the crossover at Edgecliff needs a minimum of two staff since there
is an electric release for each end, plus a single-lever frame for each end,
so you have to have two people (for fast operation) so one person can work
each end together. And then the turnouts have to be clipped since there's no
facing point lock mechanisms (they're normally trailing turnouts in both
directions).

The first train to go over the crossover would arc and spit against the
contact wire since there's 20 years of much to clean off, and the section
insulator in the middle would produce a good light show too. After a few
trains it'd probably be clean enough.

Regards,

Craig.
