As was the mandatory requirement to show your ticket to the conductor or bus
driver. At least this way, validating it will tell the whole vehicle if the
ticket is invalid.

When they introduced the Crouzet system in Adelade, they had to issue police
officers with tickets for when they were travelling to and from work out of
uniform. The social mindset there was such thatthey were being accused of
being fare evaders, since they were not validating tickets.

Have you ever thought that this might be part of the plan? To make fare
evasion so socially unacceptable that there will be pressure put on people
who clearly do not pay their fare? For this to work, everybody needs to
validate.
