I remember the SA running around for along time afterwards with CR cars in
the consist.
I also remember someone saying about the CTC operator in Melbourne, that he
could see exactly what was happening on his panel, but, of course, was
unable to do anything about it. Must have been pretty traumatic for him (I
think I can presume it was a "him" in those days). Not unlike the
signaller's worst nightmare of realizing he/she has sent a train into an
occupied section. Remember the film "The Signalman"? I think that's what it
was called. It was about a signalman's life in a tunnel box in England
somewhere. He did send a train into the tunnel, I think after another one
which had  stopped.
