Not really, it has to be the other way around. When there's minimal
public transport around, the closer you live to it the more you pay
to live there. Such that it's cheaper, where I live, to have a car just
for driving to the station, than to pay the extra money to live near
the station ... yet if there was a decent bus service, then a lot fewer
people would drive.
[There is a bus service, but I'm buggered if I'm going to ride in
 packed peak-hour trains; that's the only time the buses run]
