Chubb Security

I heard on the radio today that the union is against Chubb Security patrols
before 7.00pm. They say that the positions that are redundent should be
retrained for these jobs.

The SRA claim this is not possible because it could take 1 year to train.

Fact 1. The security coarse that the Chubb guards and any guard for that
matter take is for 8 days. This then entitles the person to have a Security
licence.

Fact 2. Most of the guards that Chubb employ are students mainly from India
and Pakistan. They arrive in the country do their security training and then
apply to Chubb to get a job.

Fact 3. The reason why most guards are not Australian is because of the low
pay and hours. The pay rate is 11.33 per hour (it should have gone upto
11.69 ) and after 5.30pm 21.7 % loading. Most of the time you get a shift of
only 4 hours or less, with 4 hour's pay.

Fact 4. Most of the trouble on the trains does not stop when these guards
come through the train. A lot of the Guards do not know the law in relation
to railway offences.

Fact 5. Most of the Guards are to busy sitting in the back of the train to
see what is going on. And some are sitting down just reading the paper.

Fact 6. There has never been 1 night that there has been Chubb guards on
every single train. If the SRA guards reported more often about this problem
the quicker they might decide to finally get rid of these toothless tigers.
