Main West Restrictions

Last Friday's Trailerail/Sprinter maybe one of the longest to date with at
leat 30 roadrailers, if not more, and 25-30 intermodal. The length of the
train must be over the 900 metre limit, and if it does keep increasing in
the future what is its future on the Main West. Will Rail Access Corporation
allow trains to operate on the main west, and Orange-Parkes above 900 metres
on a regular basis.

If rail freight is going remain a competitive alternative to road transport
over the Blue Mountains trains up to 1500 metres would have to be allowed
and the nessesary upgrade to infrastructure commenced soon. What changes and
improvments need to be made for the operation of longer trains between Syney
and Parkes, via Blue Mountains?
