Having just spent the weekend in Sydney I feel the argument is pretty much
a moot point. While weekend travel is different to peak time commuting,
the $5.60 return from Campbelltown to Central compares very favourably to
travelling from, say, Pakenham to Flinders St on a weekend.
Add another $3 to go to Darling Harbour and back on the light rail, and
I'm
still ahead of a 1+2+3 daily in Melbourne.
