But John, a bridge as proposed by David (above) from the Maribyrnong
River freight line would cut off all access to both Swanson and
Appleton Docks, both of which are busy docks for containers and bulk
handling.

Victoria Dock is in "decay" as the Melbourne Ports Corporation
consciously decided to develop Webb Dock as the next major Melbourne
dock, allowing the government to sell up this area now called
Docklands.  The Bolte bridge demarcates what is Docklands the
development and the Port of Melbourne proper.
