This is not associated with train running but I remember in the middle
seventies I was collecting tickets in the middle of the evening peak at a
suburban station in Melb when I noticed a person carrying an out of date
weekly ticket and I asked the person about it
they replied they had forgotten to buy their new weekly. About 3 days latter
I was again checking tickets  the same person came through so I told them to
go to the ticket window where the SM looked after them. The following night
was cold and wet and this person walked through the barriers with an
unberlaa leveled at my head height I ducked and it removed my cap.   gee I
must have made this person very mad but not as mad as I made the other
passengers as that was the last time I opened both gates standing in the
middle this caused long queue's with constant complaints.
