They will if there's a significant overall transit time advantage and
a simple interchange.

Given the large amount of private right of way involved in getting to
the city from the inner west, it should be easy for the light rail
line to achieve a much quicker journey to the central/haymarket area
compared to competing bus services.

Convenient interchange to other modes is the area that still needs
work.

Many commuters catch ferries to the city, knowing that will need to
interchange, when the could have a one set bus ride.  They do it
because it gets them to the destination significantly quicker.
