Re: NSW 90 class question

<<<<<<<Mark,
the W stands for Export Model and the M stands for Modified (non
standard or non US safety) Cab. You may also be interested to know that these
units have builders numbers from EMD and also from Clyde yet were never built
by
Clyde. It is also worth mentioning that in the US the letter M is used to
designate a MKA Rebuild.
Bob>>>>>>>

This is getting confusing! EMD are getting very inconsistent with their export
loco's. For example, Indias latest EMDs are called GT46MAC (perhaps because
most of the order will be assembled in India) no mention of "W" but true
enough, most of their latest exports have gotten the "W".

In the US the letter M has been used to denote: wide or safety cab, Modified
and MK have used it too as you pointed out to denote an MK rebuild.

What intrigues me is that the 90's and the 82's have almost identical cabs yet
the 90's got the G prefix and the 82's got the J prefix. (remember J does not
mean dual cabs like many believe, NJ's have only one cab but got the J prefix)

Comments?

Mark.
