If you are filthy rich and will land in Australia after April 1999, why not
try the new Great South Pacific Express.  It is jointly operated by
Queensland Rail and Venice-Simplon (who run the Orient Express) and is
expected to run between Sydney and Kuranda (north of Cairns). Test runs are
currently under way for the narrow gauge Brisbane - Kuranda portion of the
journey. QR proposes the use of electric and diesel-electric locomotives
most of the time but steam will be used from time to time.
