To Brighton yes, but the railway was different to the tramway.  The
tramway ran along the streets more or less directly continuing the line
of the rail route from Melbourne.  The rail route headed back North,
through Albert Park then across St Kilda Road to Windsor station from
whence it still exists as the current day Sandringham line.  The section
between South Yarra and Windsor via Prahran was built to replace the
more circuitous route via St Kilda which was closed I think just before
WW1.
