A bit late to apologise AFTER you post! :-)

Much more exciting than what I will be doing - sitting by the banks of Lake
Lyall, waiting to get up at 5am to start fishing. *yawn*

When did CityRail start running freights in the Yass Junction area? Come to
think of it, when did CityRail start running freights?

Also, their planned shutdown is only for underground stations between 2345
and 0114 - so anything going through Yass Junction would have well and
truely cleared the Sydney area by the time you would be interested in.

AFAIK the station is staffed by Countrylink staff, so they are not permitted
to give out information regarding another comapny (Freightcorpse) - although
you could always do what I do - ring the railway switchboard on (02) 9219
8888 - there is a new number, which I don't have, but the old one still
works - ask for South Control. When they ask who is calling, give them a
false name - say something like "Billy Bloggs, from XYZ Rail Company" or
whatever - you will be put through and you can ask whatever you want. The
switch is normally manned until 2200 though, and I am not sure what the
hours will be on 31/12 so it might be an idea to get in early.

>Is anyone able to give any clues as to what might be running?

Nope - we are all clueless in here.

>Thanks for taking the time to read this!

You mean people will actually read it? I certainly didn't.
