Re: Longeviry of films - was Elitechrome slide processing

I have slide from 1958 and tried various films.

I have used no special storage, show slides in wooden slide cases, rejects
kept in original plastic cases in cardboard boxes.

My wife mistakenly packed our show selection when we went to New Guinea, so
they copped a particularly harsh couple of years.

The results - fungus infections tho not too bad.

Colour retention. The best of all, Ektachrome followed by Kodachrome.
Ektachrome by far the best colour reproduction, Kodachrome we know the
colour balance problems there. Colour retention of all other film types
tried have deteriorated to totally unacceptable standards.

I would expect a failure of Ektachrome to keep to be a processing problem.
(All my slides were processed by the manufacturer reps).

I have not taken slides for many years now, and am now scanning old ones and
printing. It is amazing how the computer can revitalise old colour
abberations, remove scratches and fix mould marks (also errant wires, posts
etc.). Have no illusions though, such cleaning up takes inordinate amounts
of time.
