I got the brochure today in the mail and unfortunately it will be the K cars
like I thought (it won't stop me from going on the tour though :-) ). For a
tour to Ballarat why couldn't WCR hire Steamrail's wooden cars? These are
much better for rail tours than the K cars. For most steam tours I really
don't see what the big deal is in going above 80 kph, except where it's
really needed (ie: the 1998 Piangil tour). At the moment if you want to go
somewhere behind a steam loco over 80 kph all you have to do is go on the
WCR Warrnambool service. 100 kph or greater behind a steam loco isn't
exactly a special event these days. Also, the wooden cars are much better
for parallel runs. Most of the K cars in Victoria aren't compartment cars,
so if you're on the wrong side you can't really see much. With the wooden
cars, at least they have a corridor on one side.
