Hi James,
This would have been a racecourse line service, scheduled either to take
passengers (there were racecourse line trains yesterday), or to stable. The
latter happens almost all the time.
I did however see about 3 weeks ago, a Hillside Hitachi stop at North
Melbourne platform 3 on an up (presumably an up broadmeadows or st albans)
with passengers aboard. There were no scheduled racecourse trains that day,
and anyway, racecourse trains normally use platforms 5 and 6.
