The first stage of the Docklands tramway in Melbourne has opened today. Route
70 (Wattle Park) trams are this morning travelling West from their former
terminus at Flinders/Spencer Sts corner, along Flinders Street Extension to the
new terminus outside the World Congress Centre. Its only a couple of hundred
metres long, but its the start of a mjaor new city tram route - the remainder of
which is well under construction and will open progressively over the next few
months.
