That would be a backward step. What do you do if/when traffic increases
in the future?

A more logical solution would be to resignal Cootamundra to Junee for
bidirectional running, and then progressively continue the same back
towards Joppa Junction.

And double tracking Junee - Albury and electrification of the entire
line was proposed in 1980. :)
