So far so good.

I think that pilot staffs (note Mr. Notagunzel - staffs) fell out of favour
because of the need to have someone visit both ends of a single line section
and obtain them, then find the train and start emergency proceedings. Always
simplier to just issue an order to proceed and put on a blocking jack to
prevent a second/opposing train from entering. This is what happened on the sg
from at least 1972 (when I went to Seymour) and I suspect happened at most
other places even though pilot staffs were provided. And that is why they are
being pulled out, lack of use.

Take 100 lines Mr. Notagunzel - staves are in Queensland, staffs are in
Victoria.

What do you mean. During its time as a repeater I would suggest that the red
aspect might not have been sighted but perhaps personal observation might prove
otherwise. AFAIK the western CTC when being installed also had repeaters that
later became three position permissive signals (I don't like the Victorianism
of calling them autos because even absolute signals have a certain automatic
function about them) and I think that they would not have shown a red aspect
whilst in this transitory stage.
