Re: Newer V sets

There was a Name the Train competition for the new intercity trains that became the DKM/Ts.

The winning entry was to be published in the Daily Telegraph, The Newcastle Herald, The illawarra Mercury and the Lithgow Mercury on Friday 29 April 1988.

Does anyone know what the winning name was?

The original order for the last V set cars was for 50 cars, however there was a change of state government in 1988, therefore only 14 were built, 7 trailers and 7 motors.

There were some pictures of the proposed design around the mid to late 80s. They were meant to have some of the features and a little of the styling of the Tangaras. They still looked similar to the existing V sets although I don't think there was any fluting on the sides.

The new carriages were not going to be integrated with the existing V sets, instead they were to be of a higher "intercity" standard.

I think the last DKM/T came into service in 1990.

This is probably bleeding obvious, but there are a number of V set carriages
that have an pneumatic powered entrance to the seating compartment plus the
reversible seating is slightly modified to "separate" the two seaters to
look as if there are two one seaters bound together. You can tell by the
metal "stripes" that run across the body--the "stripes" are less frequent
than the earlier "V" sets. When were these "newer" carriages delivered and
how many of them are there out of all the V sets carriages SRA has?
The cars you are refering to are the DKM/DKT's. I think from memory there are 40 cars in total. These were the last ones built by Comeng for NSW.
