Re: Government buying private!

I understand that Minister Scully will announce in the next few days the
purchase of North and Western Bus Co. and the Paramatta Ryde (Trailer Tours)
Bus services by State Transit. There are several reasons for the sale of
these two companies including the age of the owners. I understand that the UK
based Stagecoach group were interested however were unable to match the offer
from State Transit. These takeovers will allow Government buses to enter
Paramatta for the first time. Also most of the North and western services
around Ryde are in STA territory. The North and western depot is right behind
the STA Ryde depot and a ramp is to be built to link the two. Finally I'm
told that this is the biggest ever takeover of a private operator by the
Government. The deal involves a fleet of 99 at N&W and 34 at Para/Ryde. The
biggest prior to this was the Stewart takeover in the early 1930s. Hope this
info is of some interest to all. Cheers Bob
