My understanding was that the light rail line was to go direct into the
city rather than take the long way around through  the wasteland of
Kensington, the docklands and Spencer Street the way the train does. The
better acceleration capabilities of B2 trams and the more frequent
service that was proposed would have also combined to make the service
faster.
