Warragul line (Vic) questions

Today I took a trip on a suburban electric train from Flinders Street to
Warragul and I've got a couple of questions that maybe somebody can help
me with.

The line between Bunyip and Longwarry is the only section of single track
but by the look of it it once was dual track. Does anyone know why this
section was made single track?

The line between Drouin and Warragul is often on split levels. It looks
like one track is the original track with cuttings and embankments and
a bridge over it in one place to avoid a level crossing. The other
track looks like it was added on afterwards and someone decided that
it could follow the natural contours and have a level crossing where the
other track didn't. Does anyone know why it doesn't follow the other
track more closely?

Thanks,

Chris
