Yes, the Plenty Hwy route which effectively connects NQ and FNQ and NWQ/Gulf
with the Alice would, in conjunction with the Warburton Rd (I have travelled
it, including the Linton's Bore - Snake Well stretch, now bypassed by the
"new" route via Giles) divert some existing long-haul NQ-WA traffic. The
truckies only carry stuff that people want to buy from people who want to
sell. This route will probably only add modestly to populations along its
line of route, and divert traffic from the National Hwy network. My point is
that, unlike the previous projects, this doesn't tap into latent demand -
not a real problem for rail.
