Yes, he did an excellent job.

I purchased my copy up in Port Hedland, of all places,
way back in 1980.  Just could not put it down until I
read the thing from go to whoa.

Funny thing, the Stevenson River which the old Central
Australia narrow gauge crossed in the far north of
South Australia was named after one of his ancestors.

The bridge girders across the Stevenson were left
behind by Roberts Construction the firm who tore up the
old narrow gauge from Oodnadatta SA to Ewaninga NT
because they were too difficult to recover.  

Ian would sort of understand that in a way.
