You know, I thought, gee that's cynical..... but then the Sunshine
Advocate arrived today with the same headline article. On about the
tenth paragraph...

"The cost of the project will not be covered from the public purse.
That will be passed on as a condition of sale to whoever buys the
Bayside Trains franchise, which includes the Melbourne-St Albans
railway line." (BTW, the cost of the electrified extension: $27
million.)

The article also states that "with the extension of trains to Sydenham
Watergardens (shopping centre) could ultimately grow to 175,000 sq m
(from current 32,000 sq m)."

"The former Keilor council had insisted that when or if electric train
services were extended to Sydenham, marshalling yards be built further
on - behind the Calder Park Raceway. With parking for 10,500 cars at
the raceway, former council officers believed a station at that
location would more than serve the commuter needs of Diggers Rest,
Sunbury, parts of Melton and the entire Macedon Ranges."
